With the 2018-19 NFL season over, the New England Patriots hoisting another championship tropy, and EA releasing the Ultimate Team of the Year, it’s about that time where we don’t necessarily move away from last year’s game but begin to look forward to a new iteration in the Madden franchise.
This year’s game will presumably be titled Madden NFL 20 (referred to as Madden 20 for short, most likely). But other than some possible players that could see ratings bumps, according to EA, we don’t really know much about the game. So when can we expect to hear more?
EA hasn’t even begun to talk about Madden 20, but all you have to do is look into the past for a better idea of when to expect a reveal announcement. Madden NFL 19 was first announced on May 25, 2018, though we didn’t find out that Antonio Brown would grace the cover until July. Madden NFL 18 was also announced in May with EA revealed Tom Brady as the cover athlete on the same day.
So we can expect, based on the last two games in the series, that Madden NFL 20 will be announced sometime in May. The reveal will likely also contain a release date for the game.
Speaking of release dates, Madden games typically release in August. While we used to have to wait until late August – around the end of preseason – EA did shift the release of Madden NFL 19 up to early August. Madden 19 officially released on August 10, 2018, though EA Access members on Xbox One did get a brief head start with the game. Madden 18 released on August 22, 2017, but again, EA Access members and those who pre-ordered the “G.O.A.T. Edition” were able to play three days earlier. Madden NFL 17 released on August 23, 2016.
So as you can see, an August release date for Madden NFL 20 seems most likely. The only thing we’re left wondering is if it’ll be early or late August.
