Overwatch Summer Games 2018: When will it begin?

Overwatch Summer Games

It’s almost time for the Overwatch Summer Games, the annual seasonal event featuring Lucioball and special cosmetics.

Looking for a way to escape the heat, Overwatch‘s annual seasonal Summer Games event is the perfect excuse to stay inside and play video games all day. With record-breaking temperatures, we can’t wait for the 2018 Summer Games to arrive in Overwatch. The problem is, Blizzard has yet to actually announce the dates.

Thankfully, it doesn’t take much to predict when 2018’s Summer Games will arrive. All you have to do is look at the past two years.

The first Summer Games event started in 2016 in the first week of August. Specifically, it ran from August 2, 2016, through August 23, 2016.

The second, 2017 Summer Games event actually started a week later in the second week of August. It began on August 8, 2017, and ran through August 29, 2017.

You’ll notice in both years, the start date was a Tuesday.

Looking at this year’s calendar, the first Tuesday in August is actually August 7 which seems to be the most sensible start date for the 2018 Summer Games.

It’s not confirmed, but I believe the 2018 Summer Games will run from August 7, 2018, through August 28, 2018. With next month rapidly approaching it shouldn’t be long now before Blizzard actually announces the dates.

In terms of what we can expect, it’s likely we’ll see the return of Lúcioball as well as the Summer Games Loot Boxes which contain specially-themed cosmetic items.
