So you’re tired of exploring the American frontier in Red Dead Redemption 2 by horseback? Thankfully, the game offers a fast travel system, but unlocking it requires a bit of work. Unlike the first Red Dead, where all you had to do was pitch camp, Red Dead Redemption 2 requires you to unlock the feature by upgrading your gang’s camp – specifically, the lodging.
To unlock fast travel in Red Dead Redemption 2, use the ledger in your camp after the start of Chapter 2 in the story. From there, you can purchase the upgrade for Dutch’s lodging. This has the added benefit of inspiring other gang members to contribute more. This will also unlock a map upgrade, which is how you fast travel. Dutch’s lodgings cost $220, while the map itself costs $325. It’s location in your camp changes depending on where your camp is located. And the only downside to this feature is that you can’t fast travel back to your camp.
Alternatively, there are other ways to travel quickly in Red Dead Redemption 2, including the stagecoach or train systems that are located in towns. Using these, you can travel to previously discovered locations for a relatively low price. Like fast travel, though, you are unable to use these quick travel options to return to camp, which thematically makes sense, but is still an annoyance.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is now available on Xbox One and PS4. The game, from developer Rockstar Games, has received rave reviews, which you can read more of here.
